The pandemic is upon us and it seems that we will not get back to our normal lives within the next few months. It is clear at this point that wearing a mask out in public is mandatory. Keeping ourselves safe is a community obligation.
The surgical face masks and alcohol demands are off the charts, and that means it is time for some fake and overpriced products to surface. The surgical N95 masks are quite expensive at this point, so many resort to the regular surgical face mask. Be smarter than your supplier and learn these 5 tips to spot real vs. fake face masks.

Deconstruct your mask and use a lighter to torch the middle layer. A real mask will melt instead of catching fire.

Try to blow out the flame from a lighter while wearing a mask. The melt-blown inner fabric of real masks, which aids in the filtration of gaseous and liquid materials, will make it difficult for you to put out the flame.
Tip 3: Water test

Pour some water on the inner side of the mask. The real ones should not leak, hence they cannot transmit the virus via respiratory fluids.
Tip 4: Light transmission test
Only minimal light should be able to pass through.
Tip 5: Electrostatic adsorption test
